I use cocoa krispies, too…also….if you melt white chocolate and pour it over the top of the cocoa krispies after you have them patted down in pan…omg, delicious!

Not only do we only use Coco Krispies, we also add peanut butter. Can I say there is nothing like these. They are amazing!

These are good tips! I always add a 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla to the melting mallows too, Soo
good!!
kami says
Yum! I’ll have to try that!
Gina Edwards says
I always put vanilla extract in mine. Around Halloween I color the marshmallow orange and use popcorn instead of rice krispies and make popcorn balls.

I have my own recipe for rice krispie treats that I think tops all others. It involves marshmallow creme in addition to the marshmallows, and much more butter than the recipe now calls for (it used to call for more butter decades ago). But I think that the key to really great RK treats that don’t tear up the roof of your mouth is to dump them into the pan as evenly as you can, but DON’T PAT THEM DOWN! And don’t refrigerate. This way they are much softer, gooeyer, and yummier. Oh, and for the most decadent RK treats ever, add a layer of caramel in the middle. 🙂

Cool! I want to try these tips!

🙁 the video did not work – if your post contained all the hints then I’m okay – I’m not a good cook – but I will try

These are great tips! Another good tip is if you remove the pot from heat when you still have lumps and just stir until there are no lumps then you won’t have hard treats and you also won’t have big clumps of marshmallow in them either. I typically remove from heat after they just begin to melt and stir, then again in the middle, and again at the end. Makes for perfect treats!!!

These are delicious. I always, always screw them up – it’s ridiculously how something so simple always gets messed up! So when I saw this on Pinterest I knew I had to try it. I just made them for my son’s class birthday party tomorrow. I’m glad I made extra so I can have some. Thanks so much for sharing.

I melt my marshmallows in the microwave. Just throw the butter on top and cook 1.5 minutes. Turns out perfect everytime. Another tip: when I pat them down I just dunk my hands in a bowl of water a couple times so they don’t get sticky.

Great tips! I love Rice Krispie Treats! Pinned!
Jennifer says
Good tips, however, I was reading somewhere recently that you want the marshmallows completely melted so that the bars set up well.
Tracy says
I sometimes add craisins to the Rice Krispie Bars- it’s yummy!!
Val says
Do you need to use salted or un salted butter? Probably a silly question but I’m not a baker but would love to try this recipe. :0)
kami says
I always just use salted butter. Works great!
Pegg says
First thing Do NOT even think about making them when the humidity is high. They will be awful
Vickie says
Love the video and love the idea of LOTS more mallow! But take it up another notch to make it even more addictive and perfect – brown the butter for a caramelized butter taste added to the sweet crunch of it all and you will have to take your shoes off to eat them, your toes are gonna curl!!!
Jean says
I have the best luck with these using the microwave. I am going to try using extra marshmallows and see what happens.
Aggie says
What size box of cereal and what size bag of marshmallows, please ?
Kami says
Hi Aggie! Use a 12oz. box of cereal and the 16oz. bag(s) of marshmallows.

Great tips! I do find using wet hands works SOOO much better than butter to avoid stickiness. We make what we call ‘inter racials’ (hope that doesn’t offend anyone) but we use half reg rice krispies and half cocoa krispies, and of course a dash of salt and vanilla in the marshmallows! A family favorite!
