Strawberry Stuffed French Toast is one of our favorite weekend breakfasts for slow mornings. It comes together fast too.
We all have it, the under used, under appreciated appliance. Ours just happens to be the Betty Crocker Stuff-n-Munch. I was feeling a bit of guilt for being out of town over Valentine’s Day, so I thought nothing says “I love you”, like a little stuff-n-munch. We typically use this little sandwich maker for just regular grilled cheese sandwiches, but this time around it was made for Strawberry Stuffed french toast! It was delicious, and so easy! It’s perfect for Stuffed French Toast because it keeps the strawberries and sweet cream cheese inside while the outside gets golden brown.
Ingredients:
- 6 slices white bread
- 3 eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 small container fresh strawberries washed, trimmed and sliced
- For the Sweetened Cream Cheese:
- 1/2 package cream cheese (4oz.)
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- powdered sugar *optional garnish
How to make Strawberry Stuffed French Toast:
- Make the Sweetened Cream Cheese:
With your hand mixer or stand mixer, mix together the cream cheese, heavy cream, sugar and vanilla until smooth. - Prepare the strawberries: wash, trim and slice them.
- Make the French Toast:
- In a large bowl mix together the eggs and milk. Once combine, pour into a glass pie plate for easy dipping.
- If using a sandwich maker, plug it in to let it warm up. (If using a skillet, let it warm up and lightly grease it with butter.)
- Assemble the bread slices with a spread of the sweetened cream cheese on the inside of each slice. Place the sliced strawberries on one half of the sandwich. With the the two pieces of bread together like a sandwich, dredge both sides of the bread into the egg mixture.
- Lightly spray the sandwich maker with nonstick cooking spray. Working two sandwiches at a time, add them to the preheated sandwich maker to cook.
- Serve with powdered sugar, syrup and more fresh strawberries.
More Ways to serve Stuffed French Toast:
You can choose to serve this stuffed with just the sweetened cream cheese filling and then serve it with different things. Here are some of the ways we like to enjoy it:
- Buttermilk Syrup
- Fresh Berries: raspberries, blueberries, blackberries or strawberries
- drizzle of honey
- maple syrup
- cinnamon sugar mixture
- candies sliced nuts like almonds or pecans
- banana slices
What kind of bread is best for French Toast:
You can really make french toast with any kind of bread, but we have found that brioche, challah or french bread all make really good french toast. We have found that even the cheapest white bread works great for French Toast. The trick is to not let the bread sit in the egg and milk mixture too long to get too soggy. Quickly dredge each side of the bread before cooking.

We have the “Snackster” or something. Anyways, it’s actually one of my fav appliances. It makes grilled cheese SOO easy and quick. I haven’t tried the stuffed french toast though. I’m totally going to. Thanks!

Hi everyone, My wife loves this little machine, but I, her husband, got burned beyond belief by it. It was on the counter top and I went to move it; when I touched it’s caser with my hand I could hear my skin sizzling. The adrenaline shot through my body, I ran to the sink to cool my hand it with water. Wow, I seriously burned five fingers. I noted later the machine says on a small sticker “caution sides are hot” WOW, not big enough to really show the danger here. I put my heat thermometer on the machine and 5 minutes after it was unplugged it was showing 180 degrees on the cabinet. Our model looks different than the one you are using, so maybe they fixed the problem. I just want everyone to be aware These machines are dangerous, I felt as if I had stuck my hand in a hot iron skillet by just touching the case. It would be very dangerous to kids and ….. unawares husbands.
Deborah Brown says
Could this recipe work with a panini maker?
kami says
Sure!
DS says
You don’t need a machine to make one, although I’m sure it’s yummy. I make cream cheese stuffed french toast all the time just in my frying pan. Cream cheese in the middle of 2 slices of bread, then put it in the egg mixture, and then straight onto the pan. It’s amazing! Just thought that might help all the people who don’t own one! 🙂
Leslie says
Oh my gosh, how easy is that. I want one of those!
Susie Bolyard says
I made this for breakfast on our last day of weekend camping and they are delicious! The only thing I did differently was using an electric skillet since I forgot to pack our sandwich maker. We had one left over, which I ate cold after we got home and it was still yummy! I’ll definitely be making these again!
