Do you have a thing for candy corn, but not actual candy corn candy… those are gross! They’re right up there with Circus Peanuts…eww. I mostly just love the colors and classic shape of candy corn, and how they make me think of this time of year with Autumn and Halloween.
Ever since we drove past the cute little store Fancy Flours in Bozeman, MT (where I also got the idea for this Giant Candy Corn Cupcake), I’ve wanted one of these candy corn cookie cutters but since they were all sold out, I had to get creative.
So what’s the next best thing to giant Candy Corn Cookies? Giant Candy Corn Rice Krispie Treats, of course. Plus they were a lot easier to make…no baking required. Here are all the tips and tricks to get rice krispie treats right every time! I used Almond bark for the top coat. I love rice krispie treats for kids, because they are crumb free.
For the frosting, I bought one pkg of White Almond Bark and divided it into three (with a little more for the orange color). I chopped up each section so it would melt quicker in the microwave. Then mixed in the food coloring. I started with orange to make sure that I had enough.
I made two batches of Rice Krispie Treats, and one pkg of Almond Bark was enough to cover all of them.

Decorative Metal Stars
Easy craft idea: Make a decorative Star for any holiday…even Halloween!
We have made these stars for Christmas, The 4th of July and Halloween. They would be cute for all the holidays, or anything you are into!
Although I do not scrapbook, I sure do LOVE all the cute scrapbook paper available, and these festive stars are a great way to highlight some of the cute holiday patterned paper.
The best part of this craft is the spray glitter added at the end. These decorative stars would be so fun for all the holidays! They are so easy to make.
Here’s what you need to make a decorative star:
– the metal star (It can be any coordinating color since it will mostly be covered up.)
– about 5 different 12×12 pieces of scrapbook paper in coordinating colors
– Deco-padge or Modpodge
– an ink pad (to ink the edges of the paper)
– spray glitter (for the finishing touch)
– festive ribbon to hang it up to your front door
To start: place parchment paper on one side of the star and trace the triangle side to make a template to cut out the triangle shape of parchment paper for each side of the star.
Use the parchment paper as a guide to cut out the triangles of decorative paper you want to fit onto your star and decide which sides you want them to adhere to.
Run an ink pad on the edges of the paper, this gives the paper edge a more finished look.
To adhere the paper to the metal star, mod-podge one side of the star at a time and add the paper measured to fit. Stick the paper triangle onto the star. Repeat this step for each side of the star.
Finish with a top coat of mod-podge to the top of each paper to protect the paper. This helps to water proof the paper.
This step is optional: Finish off with a spray glitter. Place a piece of cardboard outside where it is well ventilated. Place the star on the cardboard and spray it with a gold glitter spray.
When dry, you can add a festive ribbon to hang the star on your door. These would make a fun craft night with girlfriends. They also make great handmade gifts too.

Kin Dee Garten…back to school 2008
She’s off to kindergarten.
It’s official, our girl is growing up way too fast. Yesterday Avery had her first day of Kindergarten. Since she didn’t start until noon, we decided to visit her Dad at his office and feed the ducks, oh yeah and show off her little uniform with her giant backpack. She had a great first day! She came home buzzing about everything, including the fact that there was garbage in her new backpack (Whoops…guess I forgot to pull the brown paper out). We are thrilled about her teacher this year. I really thought that I would be a basket case about now, but I think the last two years of preschool have made me realize that it is just three hours a day and that next year at this time is when I will be a wreck. I think the hardest part is when I pick her up and see fifth graders on cell phones and then I want to say “Not yet…just let her stay little!”
Her little brother is super excited for her, but I think he is more excited about being her errand running replacement.
We hope this big backpack and this little girl have a great year!
He’s Here!
He is here! Our baby boy is here!
All we can say is ahhhh, He is here.
Late last night, we got to meet little Aiden for the first time and bring him home. What an amazing experience it was last night. We have so much love for our birth mom Megan and her family. We are so thankful for the love and support they have given all of us. We feel so blessed to be connected to such a special family.
Little Aiden Jack was born Sunday Night June 15th at 8:50 p.m.
weighing 8lb. 7oz. and 19 in. long; complete with a faux hawk. He is the sweetest little baby, so calm and content. We are in love with him!
We were greeted at midnight last night with Aiden’s own little cheering section. My two sisters and my parents surprised us by decorating our house with tons of balloons to celebrate his welcome home. It was so fun.
This morning Avery woke up as a big sister. She is thrilled! She has already announced his arrival to all the kids on our street.
She just loves holding him.
After so much anticipation of his arrival, and such an emotional roller coaster along with our first sleepless night (wahoo!), I think we are all a bit tired.
Halloween 2007
I love looking back at old pictures, so here are Avery’s costumes from the beginning.
– The Ladybug (10 months)
– The Pumpkin (1 year)
– The Bumble Bees (2 years)
– The Cowgirl (3 years)
– and Tink! (4 years)
And this year at Age 4…Tinkerbell and her furry fairy friend. She can fly, she can Fly, she can Fly!
Giant Halloween Cupcake
Earlier this month while we were driving through the town of Bozeman, Montana: we spotted the cutest little store on Main Street: fancy flours. Their window display was sooo cute!! It was love at first site! It was full of fun cake and cookie decorating stuff. Unfortunately they were sold out of what I wanted…this giant cupcake pan.
I’m having so much fun with this giant cupcake pan! “I’ll take one giant cupcake, please!”
eeeeek! (I don’t bake often, so when I do I take lots of pictures…cutest little actress around!)

Back to school photos 2007
Here we go again. Avery loves her little preschool. There are lots of familiar faces this year, we saw her teacher Miss Sherry at Seven Peaks this summer and there are three little friends from our neighborhood in her class. I love this time of year. Back to more of a routine and cooler weather will be here soon.
