Brownies from scratch

When Kyle (my husband) was in about fifth grade, he came up with this simple brownie recipe from scratch for a school assignment. I’m not quite sure how he has an original recipe (as a fifth grader), and I still don’t have one. I gotta get on that! ;)

Since his fifth grade year, this recipe has stayed a classic in their family, and is now always referred to as “Kyle’s Brownies”. If you like more cake-like brownies, then you will love this recipe. I’m a big fan of box mix brownies, and sometimes you just need something chocolate, but you might not have a box of brownie mix, but you probably DO have all the ingredients to make brownies from scratch!

Here’s the recipe:

“Kyle’s Brownies”

2 sticks of butter (room temp)
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
2 cups flour
4 Tbs. cocoa powder
1 tsp. Vanilla
1/2 tsp salt

Mix all together and bake at 350 for 30 minutes.

That’s it! If you are in ‘a chocolate jam’ this recipe will save the day! :)

Tell me: when it comes to brownies, do you like them with or without frosting?

(I’m a no nuts – no frosting kind of girl ALL THE WAY!)

  1. Yum. Is there anything better than a brownie??

  2. Jill Sumsion says:

I DO have all those ingredients and NO brownie mix in the house :).
I’ll take a brownie any way I can get it, nuts, no nuts, frosting, no frosting…not picky.

  3. Way to go Kyle! Those look delicious! I always home make my brownies and they are the “cake-like” kind… but I do add a twist and top them with mini marshmallows straight out of the oven!

  4. Colleen Bigler says:

I swear I didn’t help him with that recipe! I don’t know where it came from or if he just made it up. It really is one of the best. Sometimes I put Ande’s mints on top right when the brownies come out of the oven, let the mints melt then spread them around like frosting. MMM…my mouth is watering just thinking about it!

  5. These look delicious! I love the history behind them. I’ll have to make them soon!

  6. weirdos who like box brownies better than made-from-scratch brownies are CRAZY! (My husband is one of them, lol) I prefer my brownies with no nuts and no frosting as well though. A little dusting of powdered sugar is perfect for me. :)

  7. Sound wonderful, and I love brownies, and way shape and form.
Now, what size pan did you say these need to go into?
    Thank you Kyle…………
