Swedish Meatballs…Pure comfort food.
Swedish Meatballs Recipe
This recipe is pure comfort food, the best! I’m excited to share my Grandma Kae’s Swedish meatball recipe.
Don’t you just love finding the well loved recipe cards that your mom has cooked with for years? I had to snap a pic of the recipe card for this recipe. There is just something so special about this little worn out old recipe card, something that’s lost in today’s world of technology. I love everything about it. Although, as much as I love it, I have to say I love the advances we have made more.
Recipes that have stood the test of time. I love being able to access all of them from my phone with ease, it’s pretty amazing, don’t you think?
Here’s a pic of all the meatballs cooked and ready to go.

Looks yummy, going to try. I’m in the process of copying ALL my recipe cards into a book (no more spilled recipe boxes for me!) & then photo copying the pages for my two daughter-in-laws. The recipe cards that are from my mother and in her handwriting, I’m keeping in her old recipe box on display. It’s a big project but fun to go through the recipes too.

These were SO GOOD!!! And I did burn them a little bit because I got distracted by the baby crawling up my leg – finishing them in the broth took care of any crustiness that was left behind. 🙂 I used arrowroot to thicken the gravy – big hit! Can’t wait for lunch leftovers tomorrow.

Oh how I remember my grandmother making these.. She served them the same way you have in the picture, with maple carrots, mashed potatoes and a salad on the side.. dessert was always her triple layer chocolate cake with ice cream the we got to help turn (the old fashioned way).. So many great memories, thank you. I think I will message my aunt and find out where my grandmother’s recipes went, I sure would love a copy of them. Thank you so much for sharing.

I just want to say Thank you for sharing a “true” Swedish meatball recipe. I see so many recipes where they use allspice and nutmeg in the meatballs and that is not considered traditional Swedish meatballs.
I would personally say to use white peppar over black peppar. Very big in Sweden. Like for example, I always grew up making mashed potatoes with just butter, milk, salt and white peppar and that’s it 🙂

I made these for dinner tonight. This was the first time I ever made Swedish meatballs. I didn’t have corn starch so I used organic all purpose flour.. They were delicious! We had them with mashed potatoes and seasoned roasted root vegetables.. I will definitely make them again!
Thank you for sharing the recipe!
