This Caprese Wreath makes the most colorful festive appetizer, sure to be a hit at your holiday party.
Caprese Wreath Holiday Appetizer
We are big fans of the classic caprese salad, and this is such a fun way to serve it up: in the shape of a holiday wreath. A basic caprese salad is just fresh mozzarella cheese, ripe tomatoes and fresh basil leaves with a little balsamic glaze and olive oil. If you are heading to a party, this appetizer is so easy and so beautiful!
For the fresh basil leaves, I bought a live basil plant found in the produce section of my local grocery store for $4. After I picked so many leaves off of it, it was looking really sad, so I cut out the naked stems and stuck them in a small glass of water. After a few weeks, all of these stems will start to grow roots and I can plant them in small pots. Did you know that basil does this? It’s one of my favorite things! If you don’t have access to fresh basil because it’s winter, these live plants are a great way to go.
We used extra long toothpicks for this, but you can use regular toothpicks. The extra long toothpicks are a little more fancy and they help keep your fingers clean when eating and dipping.
For the balsamic glaze: We love this balsamic glaze from Trader Joes, it’s so good! You can also make your own balsamic glaze…here’s an easy recipe for a good balsamic glaze.
How to make a caprese wreath for the holidays?
Rinse and dry the grape tomatoes.
Set up an assembly line with the wooden toothpicks, grape tomatoes, basil leaves and mozzarella balls.
Skewer the tomato first, basil leaf second and finally the mozzarella ball. Repeat until you have filled your round platter creating a caprese wreath.
Finish with a drizzle of the balsamic glaze right before serving and or add a small bowl of the balsamic glaze into the center of the wreath for dipping. You can serve with salt and pepper on the side for extra seasoning if desired.

We served this up at a family party, and everyone LOVED it!
A reader a picture on Pinterest under this pin on the “Tried it”. Loved this cute way to serve it up like Caroline Fix shared. She made a bell pepper look like a bow for the wreath.
How many does this make? Thank you!
Hi Renee! It depends on the quantity you buy for the mozzerella balls. Just make them until you run out of the cheese.
