Here’s a salty sweet treat that can be made last minute, or with homemade caramel to add a little extra love.
These white chocolate caramel pretzels are fun to bring to a party or they make great neighbor gifts during the holidays too! You might want to double the batch, because you won’t want to give them all away.
How to make homemade caramel?
- 1 cup butter
- 2 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup corn syrup
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Melt the butter in a medium sized sauce pan over medium high heat. Add the brown sugar, corn syrup and sweetened condensed milk. Stir it all together with a wooden spoon. Cook the caramel over medium high heat, stirring constantly. The temperature of the caramel should read 235-240 on a candy thermometer (soft ball stage) when it’s ready. It should take about 14 minutes. If you don’t have a candy thermometer, you can just go with the recommended amount of time to cook the caramel and it should work well. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the vanilla.
Items needed for White Chocolate Caramel Pretzels:
- Pretzels
- Caramels – or the homemade caramel from above
- White chocolate chips
- Cinnamon sugar
How to make White Chocolate Caramel Pretzels:
1. Start by melting the caramels in the microwave in a glass bowl… or make homemade caramel. Also melt the white chocolate chips in a separate glass bowl.
2. Working in an assembly line: first, dip half of each pretzel in the melted caramel then lay on a pan lined with parchment paper to cool. Then, dip the same half of each pretzel into the melted white chocolate and lay it back on the parchment to cool.
3. Once you have a few of them cooling, sprinkle them with cinnamon sugar before they have completely cooled. The cinnamon sugar will stick to the white chocolate as it cools.
Once they have cooled completely, you can throw them in a big bowl and take with you to a party, or you can wrap them up in little cellophane bags and give them to your neighbors to wish them a Merry Christmas! They will love them!

I happen to love this kind of thing! Yum! So I did a craft today and thought of you. No, actually not a craft but something creative. Well, not really creative but sort of cute. Yes – not a craft or creative but cute. Do you feel flattered that when people do/see something cute they think of you? You should!! Loved your Christmas card guys!

I used to just make a simple bark pretzel, but not anymore. These look yummy!

For the love of God woman! For the love of God!
Sara @ Mom Endeavors says
YUM! I make chocolate covered pretzels every year, but the caramel addition would be fabulous!! Just to clarify, you have to have the caramel cool & harden on the pretzel before dipping into the melted chocolate?
Kami says
Hi Sara!
Yes, it really helps to have the caramel cool first, otherwise it messes up the white chocolate bowl.
Holly says
Wow, those look delicious! They are a lot simpler to make than I would have expected. Sweet!
Gena in Texas says
Yummy! I make the pretzels using the white bark chocolate and use red and green sprinkles. Might have to try these. BTW…where did you find the cellophane bags?
Kami says
Hi Gena!
We have a store here called Xpedx. I found the cellophane bags there.

Yum! I love chocolate CARAMEL pretzels! Have you tried the caramel bits yet? So much faster than unwrapping all the caramels. 😉 P.S. Beautiful photos!! Hope you and yours have a Happy Christmas! xo

Where did you get the bags. Perfect size and adorable closures!!
Sue says
Carmel hardened so much, lost a crown when I bit into the pretzel. Loved the taste, but how do you keep carmel softer?
kami says
Oh no! I’m so sorry about the crown! I haven’t had that issue. Maybe you have too much caramel on each one? Sorry I’m not of much help on this.
Wendy says
Love these! Great idea! Can’t find the bags anywhere! Could you let me know where I can’t find the bags! They are perfect for place setting on a table! Thanks!

We have a party and paper store near us in Utah called Xpedx or now it’s called the Paper Store. Do you have something near you for supplies like these?
Michelle says
Hi, just made (and tweaked ) your fabulous recipe. I used those flat pretzels (Pretzel Crisps….Costco)
and for the ease of it all, placed an unwrapped Rolo candy on the top to the side. 300* oven until I could flatten the rolo (3 mins?) Let them cool and dipped them into the white chocolate.
Thank you for the keeper. Sweet, salty, crispy, caramel-y, and chocolate. Merry Christmas to us from you!
(Bestest gift EVER!)

That’s a great idea! Yum!! Merry Christmas!
Eleanor says
If you put theae in baggies in the fridge, How long will they stay fresh?
Kami says
Hi Eleanor!
I think it would be better to keep them stored in an airtight plastic tupperware container at room temp until ready to deliver, then you can move them into the plastic cellophane bags.
