You can’t go wrong with a classic wedge salad, try feeding a crowd by serving a Wedge Salad Bar!
You can’t deny the deliciousness of a classic wedge salad. It’s always a winner. Crispy Iceberg Lettuce, homemade blue cheese dressing and all the toppings make it so good every time. It’s so fun to serve it up salad bar style and let your friends and family create their own salad.
Wedge Salad Topping Ideas:
You really can get creative with the salad toppings, but here are some of our favorites:
- Bacon crumbles, cooked and crispy… we like to keep cooked bacon in the fridge or freezer for ease.
- Hard Boiled Eggs are a perfect and easy protein choice
- Red Onion, sliced thin
- Radishes, sliced thin
- Tomatoes, cherry or grape tomatoes
Is Iceberg Lettuce Good for you?
Iceberg lettuce can’t compete with leafy greens like spinach and kale in the health category, but it’s still a better option than junk food. It’s loaded with water which makes it hydrating, which also makes it great for weight loss because you feel full with less calories. It has good fiber too. The real question is are all the toppings and salad dressing good for you (don’t answer that – wink). We love how iceberg lettuce stays crisp…a lot longer than most leafy green lettuce varieties.
More Salad Bar Toppings we love:
- black olives
- pickled beets
- sweet peas
- chick peas
- feta cheese
You know what I love about salads? I love how you can add in funky ingredients and the flavor combination is an unexpected surprise. When pomegranates are in season, try adding pomegranate arils for a juicy sweet crunch.
How to peel a pomegranate:
Here’s a quick tip for peeling pomegranates – peel them underwater! This tip is a lifesaver when it comes to clean up. Underwater the seeds fall to the bottom of the bowl and the rest of the peelings floats on top of the water making it easy to dump out the water leaving the seeds at the bottom.
Here’s our favorite recipe for the BEST homemade blue cheese dressing. We call it Roquefort dressing…it’s basically Blue Cheese Dressing with a different name…it’s the same thing.
