My sweet boy turned 5 this weekend. Right now he loves all things Ninja, so naturally he wanted a Ninja birthday party. We all love the video game Fruit Ninja, so we thought it would be fun to do a real life version of it, and it turned out to be the perfect party on a hot Summer day.
I did a bunch of research online for Ninja parties, and I fell in love with the ideas from this Fruit Ninja Live party, so I showed it to Aiden and he was excited!
To start, we made a big poster for a focal point for the whole party. For the words fruit ninja, I used small neon colored duct tape. It was really easy and I love how the letters look like Ninja style writing! We intentionally left ends cut at a diagonal and we left some longer than others.
Inspiration for the paper plate fruit on the big sign, came from these paper plate bananas. I love how the edge on these paper plates give the fruit a 3 dimensional look. We started with two sizes of the cheap white paper plates.
We painted all of them to look like fruit cut right in the middle. We used brightly colored acrylic craft paints. Here’s the citrus fruit, my favorite!
Once all the plates were dry, I cut up a small poster board into fourths and hot glued clusters of fruit to each one. I randomly placed them together only gluing down small sections to keep them looking 3 dimensional. From there, I cut the poster board underneath each cluster so you couldn’t see it.
Then I hot glued the fruit clusters to each corner of the big sign.
I love how it turned out! So bright and fun!
For the ninja headbands, we took an extra large white t-shirt and cut it into strips.
The kids loved being ninjas!
We filled a bunch of water balloons all ‘fruity’ colors.
After a little instruction from the ‘Master Ninja’, we were ready to start!
At first we used clothes pins and lined the balloons up for each ninja to take a turn,
but after each kid had a turn, we ended up playing Fruit Ninja baseball. Both ways were a lot of fun. Water balloons on a hot day are always fun.
The birthday ninja had a great time.
After cake and ice cream, we sent each kid home with some candy. Right now, both Target and Walmart have these darling plastic berry baskets. They worked great with the fruit ninja party theme.
This was a fun birthday party, and it would be just as fun as a ‘just because it’s Summer’ party too.
