Turkey Gyros

Gyros are traditionally made with lamb, beef, or pork, but we are making them with turkey. Add tomatoes, onion, and a yogurt sauce on pita bread for a delicious sandwich.

Ingredients
For the Turkey Marinade:
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons red wine vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 3 tablespoons plain yogurt
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • salt and pepper
For the Gyros:
  • 4 Butterball turkey breast cuts
  • 6 Pita Bread
  • 2 ripe tomatoes sliced
  • 1/2 cup red onion diced
For The Tzatziki Sauce:
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • ¾ cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • lemon juice just a squeeze
  • 1 large cucumber peeled, seeded and finely chopped
  • 1 green onion finely chopped
  • 1 garlic clove minced
  • 1/4 cup crumbled feta cheese
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon lemon zest
  • salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
  1. Stir marinade ingredients together; cover the turkey for at least 4 hours in the fridge, or preferably overnight.
  2. Cook turkey in a skillet on medium heat for 7-10 minutes or until done.
  3. Warm pitas in the microwave. Fill the warm pitas with the cooked sliced turkey.

  4. Top with turkey, tzatziki sauce, diced tomatoes and onions.
