Easy craft idea: Make a decorative Star for any holiday…even Halloween!
We have made these stars for Christmas, The 4th of July and Halloween. They would be cute for all the holidays, or anything you are into!
Although I do not scrapbook, I sure do LOVE all the cute scrapbook paper available, and these festive stars are a great way to highlight some of the cute holiday patterned paper.
The best part of this craft is the spray glitter added at the end. These decorative stars would be so fun for all the holidays! They are so easy to make.
Here’s what you need to make a decorative star:
– the metal star (It can be any coordinating color since it will mostly be covered up.)
– about 5 different 12×12 pieces of scrapbook paper in coordinating colors
– Deco-padge or Modpodge
– an ink pad (to ink the edges of the paper)
– spray glitter (for the finishing touch)
– festive ribbon to hang it up to your front door
To start: place parchment paper on one side of the star and trace the triangle side to make a template to cut out the triangle shape of parchment paper for each side of the star.
Use the parchment paper as a guide to cut out the triangles of decorative paper you want to fit onto your star and decide which sides you want them to adhere to.
Run an ink pad on the edges of the paper, this gives the paper edge a more finished look.
To adhere the paper to the metal star, mod-podge one side of the star at a time and add the paper measured to fit. Stick the paper triangle onto the star. Repeat this step for each side of the star.
Finish with a top coat of mod-podge to the top of each paper to protect the paper. This helps to water proof the paper.
This step is optional: Finish off with a spray glitter. Place a piece of cardboard outside where it is well ventilated. Place the star on the cardboard and spray it with a gold glitter spray.
When dry, you can add a festive ribbon to hang the star on your door. These would make a fun craft night with girlfriends. They also make great handmade gifts too.
