Our big Summer Road trip: Glasgow Montana
Hi Friends! I’m still recovering from our big Summer road trip from last week. What is it about a 15 hour drive (and eating junky…and seeing pictures of yourself in a swimsuit) that make you want to come home and go on a diet?! 😉
In other news, we had such a fun week with our family on my side. We’ve been looking forward to this trip with my family since Summer started. The kids have been counting down the days.
My mom’s parents live in the tiny town of Glasgow Montana . It’s pretty funny because my kids think it’s the best place ever. Isn’t that the best?! I love that they are able to make such fun memories in my Mom’s hometown, just like I was. I think if they were to stay longer than a week in Glasgow, they would think differently. We always keep the kids really busy while we’re there, plus cousins…lots and lots of cousins.
Here’s a bunch of favorite pictures from our trip:
My cute Mom jumping for joy. Happy to be back in Big Sky Country.
We always sing the Montana state song when we cross the border. We love Montana. I’ve been every Summer for as long as I can remember.
Our favorite little pizza spot in Glasgow. Eugene’s has the perfect thin crust.
We always spend a few days out at the lake. One of the days was so windy, but it turned out to be so fun! It was like waves in the ocean.
My poor brother dressed like a “big foot”. 🙂 My Mom planned a fun afternoon for the kids to hunt for the real big foot. At the end they found my brother. It was pretty funny! I’ll have to share more about all the fun activities they did.
Avery with my cute Grandpa. He’s 88 years old.
Earlier this year, Kyle bought a road bike for me. I’ve only been a few times, but I have really liked it. We both brought our bikes on the trip.
Kyle went for a ride every day while we were there. One of the days, he went 50 miles. He’s so into it!
My favorite night was the night we all went out to the big red barn. It is so beautiful out there! I have fallen in love with the beauty of the plains.
My BIL Bryan, Kyle and my brother T.R.
My first family. <3
My now family. <3
We took lots of jumping pictures.
The history of the Fort Peck Lake and Dam is so interesting. We drove out to see it. It’s currently under construction right now.
Avery at the top of the spillway. I’ll be honest, we were all a little freaked out having our kids up there so high. (acrophobia)
Out near the damn there is a dinosaur museum. So many dinosaur bones have been found out in this area.
We always make the best memories on our trip to Glasgow. …visiting two of my favorite people.
Love that big sky!
I hope you all are enjoying your Summer. Some of the best memories are made in the Summer.
I’d love to know, what’s the longest road trip you have ever been on?
Sounds like you had a great time and lots of memories. My husband was in the military for 30 years and every time we were transferred to a new duty station we always made a road trip out of it. A lot of times it took a us a month so we could see both sets of grandparents and exciting places along the way. I guess our longest was when we left Kodiak, Alaska to move to Washington State. It not only took us the longest time but also the most miles. We left Kodiak on a ferry to Seward, Alaska and drove from there to Washington. It was such a wonderful journey for all of us. We had just bought a truck and camper before we left Kodiak so we could camp the whole way so it was a new experience. We left in May and stayed in the camper until Aug. when we finally found a place to live in Washington. The kids still talk about that trip to this day. They are now 26 and 21 years old.
What a road trip! So neat! I love that your kids still talk about it. That’s what it’s all about. <3
What a fun trip – my boys would love that dino museum 😀 We’re going on a road trip in a couple of weeks, 14 hours there, so we’ll see if we survive. However, there shall be NO full body pics of me in a swimsuit!!!
Oh good luck to you Claudia! And …I KNOW!! What am I thinking? I guess it’s just motivation. 🙂
Chicago to Boulder, CO. A city girl on the dark, empty highway….eeks! The scariest part was seeing the signs every hundred yards warning: “DO NOT PICK UP HITCHHIKERS”. I found out later that that stretch of highway was going right past the SuperMax prison! The scenery through Nebraska and into Colorado was pretty, especially for someone like me, who looks at tall buildings all day, everyday.
Yikes! That would freak me out!
The scenery is my favorite part.
Glad you had a fun trip and took lots of pictures. Our longest trip was from Minneapolis, Mn to Bozeman, MT to visit our single son, who has lived out there for about 9 years now. We visited that dinosaur museum with him and it is a wonderful place. Kids & adults a like would love it. Hopefully sometime we’ll take a road trip instead of flying to Cape Charles, VA to visit our youngest son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter (now 7 mo. old). We’ve moved about an hour north of Minneapolis now and retired. Love the quiet of the country and all it’s wild life. Since I scrapbook I always take tons of pictures. The kids always tease me with “Mom has the camera out again”! They are starting to appreciate all those pics I took over the year.
Good for you for always having the camera out! They really will thank you someday.
I have friends in Helena and Missoula. It’s beautiful in the summer months. The sky stays bright until 11pm. We also went one winter and snowboarded, ski, and sledding. Fun, fun times.
My husband was in the military so we did cross country from CA to NY at least 3 times (for moves)
I LOVE Missoula! It’s such a neat town.
Oh wow! Cross-country 3 times?! That is so neat! Someday I would love to do it…when we are empty nesters.
I loved going back and looking at your older pictures!
Me too! The kids have changed quite a lot!
This was so fun to see! So glad you had a fun, safe trip!
Thanks Melanie! <3
