With the Big Game coming up this weekend and the Oscars coming up in February, we could all use a little help when it comes to hosting the perfect “Watch Party”. I’ve partnered with JCPenney to share my top 5 tips for hosting the perfect watch party. JCPenney is definitely your one stop shopping destination for stylish and affordable clothing and kitchen needs.
Over the weekend, I flew out to the JCPenney store at Oak Park Mall in Kansas City, where we held a fun event with goodie bags for attendees. My cute shimmery top and necklace are both from JCPenney. We found so many cute pieces not only in the clothing department, but also some beautiful serving pieces for a great party set up. Here’s a look at the display we created for the event. I’ll be sharing these funny printables later this week to help you decorate for a fun Game Day party.
We set up our event near Sephora inside JCPenney (I love Sephora!), and the Mall entrance.
I loved meeting a few KS readers at the event. We had two 30 minute sessions…one at 1PM and a second one at 2.
I shopped for few minutes before the event. I LOVED this long sleeve Dolman top! Dolman style tops are my favorite…so flattering and comfortable.
Right now they have their “Love Worth Giving” campaign going on. I loved the scent of this Island Coconut candle. I shared this picture on Instagram Stories.
Along with this big beautiful wooden serving bowl. JCPenney has so many cool wooden serving pieces.
Here’s a bunch of my favorite finds for Valentine’s Day gift ideas.
Okay…Here are my Top 5 Tips for Hosting the perfect Watch Party:
1-Create One Central Focal point:
Rather than adding party decor through out your home, focus on one spot to make festive. Whether it be your kitchen island, a bar cart or an empty wall near the kitchen pick one spot to make a BIG statement rather than small decorations scattered all about.
2-It’s all about The Food!
It really is all about the food when it comes to a party. A lot of food prep can happen the day before, giving you more time, in case something goes wrong or a recipe flops the day of. This will help eliminate stress before your guests arrive. Don’t hesitate to ask your guests to help with the food, they’ll love to pitch in! Don’t think you have to do it all by yourself. Always include something fresh… fruit or veggies. This is great for adding color and a little more nutrition to your food spread.
3-The Power of One Color:
Select one or two colors to visually unify your party decor. Whether it be your favorite Football team color or a warm metallic like gold or silver for a fancy Oscar party. If you plan to host a party for the Big Game Sunday you can’t go wrong with red white and blue for your color choices.
4-Use The five Senses:
Sight- use warm light from candles or string lights to set the mood
Sound- depending on the type of party you’re planning think about the sounds as your guests arrive. For a FootBall party, it will be the sounds of the game on the big screen…otherwise, a little light background music helps welcome your guests in.
Smell- Smell is the first sense we use. When hosting a party at home. Air out your house a few hours before your guests arrive. Open up windows and doors to bring some fresh air in. Then depending on the theme of your party, a scented candle, fresh flowers or the delicious smell of something cooking will set the mood of your party.
Taste- Always have something to nibble on when friends arrive. If the main course is not ready to go, this will hold everyone over until it’s time to dig in.
5-Your party begins with you!
Have you ever attended a party when the host seems a little frazzled when you arrive? When the host is frazzled, it’s hard for the overall mood of the party to be fun or relaxed. Plan to give yourself 30 minutes or so before your guests arrive to freshen up and relax a minute so you’re not stressed when they arrive.
