Positive Space

Last Summer I had an amazing opportunity to go to New York City and see in person a beautiful dance choreographed by my sister in law Bree Hafen. The dance is called Terminal Soul, and it was dedicated to our little Afton. It was one of the highlights of my summer. I’m so happy to be able to share the video of the performance with you today. We have all been waiting for the video, and now 6 months later… we finally have it! yay!

you can also watch it on YouTube here. Open it up to full screen for the full experience.

It’s the most moving dance and choreography, and I wish you all could have seen it LIVE with me that night as I did the ugly cry (how could I not?) The dance (Terminal Soul) was competing in a choreography competition called the A.C.E. awards, and it took 3rd place in the competition, qualifying my SIL Bree to go on and put on a whole dance show on Broadway the following Summer (2013 – this summer). Isn’t that so fun?! A whole dance show on Broadway in New York City!

Currently she is planning and auditioning for her show titled: Positive Space. She is also in fundraising mode as this show will not be cheap. As a winner, she will still need to cover the majority of the cost of the show in New York. She will have a preshow where she lives in Dallas TX a few weeks before the New York show.

Here is just a taste of a few of the fun items up for sale with all funds going to her production: Positive Space. You can also donate directly on the Positive Space shop page.

Adorable hair pieces, bows, bow ties, choreography and beautiful art pieces are just a few items you’ll find for sale. If you are in Dallas TX, I would highly recommend getting tickets to her show. I hear some big names in dance will be a part of the show in Dallas.

You can keep up with Bree on her Facebook page and also on her site: Bree Hafen .com.

*I’m hoping another New York trip will be in my future this summer. I’m trying to talk Kyle into it, so we can see her show and catch a little Yankee baseball.

…So…what did you think of the video? Isn’t it so beautiful?!

What a lovely way to honor your baby girl and your loss. It is joyful the way you have been able to blend Afton’s all to brief time with your family into your lives and keep her part of you. Only living with the love of our Lord can we do this in a way that is not grief driven. It is wonderful to share. Thanks.

Kami, that was amazing. I’m in a bit of a hurry so was intending to only watch part of the video, but simply could not stop watching. It was amazing. Often in dances with a story, I feel like it’s a stretch, or that on the flip side, it’s too obvious. This was absolutely PERFECT. Amazing. I love love love the ending when she returns to wrap those left behind with her light. :)

Kami!!! Thank you so much for this wonderful post! Afton truly made that piece what is was. Her spirit was there- and those 5 girls have never danced with such sincerity. Anything I say cannot begin to describe what a blessing this has been for all involved, and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to celebrate Afton and so many like her who come to teach us all about the real meaning of precious life. Xoxoxoxoxo

I kept saying to myself, I’m NOT going to cry when I watch this. But know it was a tribute to your angel Afton and then it was titled Terminal Soul…I only made it in a little bit before I felt the emotion that Bree was hoping to invoke. It was amazing and beautiful and thank you for sharing it. I’m sure it was even more stunning in person, but this way you can hit replay (like I did) and enjoy it over and over…maybe the ugly cry will lessen too. Love you and big hugs for sharing this. Thank you.

Beautiful and ugly cry at the same time! Awesome. Congrats to your SIL. I remember you telling us about Bree’s time on So You Think You Can Dance (hope I have the right show). I hadn’t ever seen it before and when my MIL was visiting she turned it on. I told her about your SIL and wouldn’t you know it was the very episode!

Kami- I finally had a few minutes to sit and watch this. What a truly beautiful and inspired piece. My best friend just lost her third child at 32 weeks and delivered her stillborn baby girl a few weeks ago. I’ve thought of you as I’ve mourned with her. Thank you for sharing the beauty along with the sorrow in your journey.
