Afton’s Birthday.
Thank you so much for all your sweet notes on Afton’s birthday. They were so nice, a sweet end to a bittersweet day.
It’s a crazy thing how you can anticipate a day for an entire year. You go through all the motions hoping it all goes well. It’s the day after the big day that you don’t think about. The day after is when you crash. It happened last year the day after Thanksgiving and the day after Christmas; and now yesterday too. It’s like my body just knows I need to make it through the big day and then the next day it tells the truth.
We met with a small group of family (any who could join us) at Afton’s grave and we sent little love notes on pink balloons up to her. It was a cold but pretty night. The sun came out while we were up there and the sunset was amazing. Heaven sent, I like to think. Here’s a few pictures from our little “birthday party” for our angel girl.

What an amazing place, what a breathtaking sunset, and above all, how beautiful you all are! Not because you look good (well yes, you DO look good) but because you ARE beautiful on the inside, you are good people. Simply. These lovely ballons sent to heaven are such a lovely thing to do. You touch my heart so much! The way you face this separation with Afton, the way you show such loyalty, the love your wonderful family gives. The purest, most beautiful things shine through this post. XOXOXO
