—Giveaway Now Closed—
We’ve been trying to drink more water at our house lately. You just feel better when you’re drinking mostly water. The long list of health benefits when you’re drinking water is awesome.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the diet coke, but I’ve been trying to set a good example for my kids.
I’m not sure the exact amount of water recommended each day, but I do know that when you have your own personal water bottle, it’s a lot easier to track how many times you fill it up in a day, which makes it easier to figure out.
My boy cracks me up. He’s crazy for anything “new”. We recently were sent a new kids water bottle by Brita that has a filter right inside. You would think it was Christmas morning with the excitement he had about it. Ha! And I’m all for it! If something as simple as a new water bottle that’s just for him gets him to love to drink water, than it’s a major win-win.
Not only do I love all the benefits that come with drinking a lot of water. I love that we’re avoiding the waste of all those plastic water bottles.
Here’s some sad facts:
- Sugary beverages are the largest source of added sugar in U.S. children’s diets, likely contributing to the rise in childhood obesity levels.
- Only 15 percent of school-age children drink the recommended amount of water, but on average they consume six sodas per week.
The new Brita Bottle for kids is a 13 oz. squeezable and reusable bottle with a built-in filter that provides a fun and convenient solution for kids to drink great-tasting water on the go.
It comes in three different colors and a kid-friendly size, the Brita Bottle for Kids is also BPA free and dishwasher safe.
Right now Brita is teaming up with non-profit Alliance for a Healthier Generation to encourage kids to swap out sugary beverages and drink more water. As part of their partnership with the Alliance, Brita will donate more than 4,000 Brita Bottles for Kids to schools across the country to encourage healthy habits in their students. Brita is working together with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation to engage students, educators and families about the health benefits of drinking more water and provide tips for staying hydrated every day.

Lead by example simple and easy! I eat healthy and my son (5 years old) wants to be just like me so we snack on carrot sticks, drink water and make smart choices with what we put in our bodies. When there is temptations (sugary snacks ) I ask him what he thinks he simply says that it is ok for a treat but not for all the time.
I try to be a good example. Nothing is outlawed, but we have “sometimes food” and “all the time food”, and we try and make exercising something fun.
I too agree that it should be by example. I am always encouraging to drink water instead of sugary drinks. We also love having a drinking fountain in our backyard for the hard playing kids to have access to water all summer and winter long.
I’ve tried to do better at keeping healthy snacks in the house more. I find if it’s right on the counter, my kids are more apt to have a banana for snack than a brownie that they have to dig to find. It doesn’t always work, but we try!
I give them healthy choices and make sure they can have an occasional treat so they don’t feel like some foods are “bad.” I have a large cup of water out that I refill all day and they love to drink it and refill it for me:) would be great for them to have their own they can refill:)
I use the crystal light drop ins and say it is rasperry leomonade and they don’t know the difference
I try to have healthy options available and ready for them to snack on. They both have water cups that we keep in the fridge for whenever they get thirsty.
I too have been trying to cut back on diet coke and trying to drink more water
This is something my two older kids (the only two in school) really do need to work on! I am trying to be a better example and lately ANY time we eat out, we all get water instead of soda! Soda or sugar drinks are for movie night, ONCE a week!
We always have their own waterbottles in the fridge that they can take at any time. the water is always cold so my boys are inclined to reach for that first.
I bought my kiddos their own water bottle & put their names on them to encourage them to drink more water.
Fortunately, all my kids drinks lots of water, so it would be nice to have some new water bottles!
We talk about the health benefits of water constantly. We drink water at dinner and always lead by example. Sometimes mommy gets to have what she wants because she’s pregnant. (: But at my son’s school they are required to bring a water bottle each day. This would be more than perfect for us for 3 reasons: 1. Required to bring a water bottle each day to school 2. Water bottle can only have sports top spout 3. We live in Arizona (HOT, crappy water, HOT)
We try to set a good example at home – water with dinner and soda only on special occasions. My son’s 4th grade teacher encourages the students to bring a water bottle to school to “hydrate their brain”. Love it!!
I am trying again to drink water when we go out to dinner. I would love these
my son drinks a LOT of water to stay hydrated– (and healthy)
This would be a great way to keep my kids hydrated — just need a way to keep them from losing them!
Providing only healthy choices helps. My youngest son won’t go anywhere without a water bottle.
We walk together all the time.
We serve water to our two at almost every meal. They can choose milk at supper, but they only get a small 5 oz cup and then they have to refull with water if they want more to drink.
I try to be a good role model by making healthy decisions myself, by drinking lots of water throughout the day and having healthy snacks readily available.
I don’t buy junk food or soda. I read labels and avoid all artificial ingredients and corn syrup. They have their own water bottles which they bring to school everyday and refill when needed. Not having all the junk in the house forces them to have healthy snacks and i haven’t had any complaints about it.
Leading by example is the best way! If we have a healthy lifestyle at home, it will be normal for them to make the right decisions when they are on their own. Of course you should talk to them as they get older and explain why we make the decisions we do!
I love this! My son loves to drink from reusable water bottles. He takes one to school every day becasue they let the kids keep them at their desk instead of getting up all the time to go to the water fountain. I need to get one, today! Thank you so much for sharing this.
We keep a water filter container in the fridge for easy access. I am always carrying a water bottle and encourage my 5 yr old son to do the same. Making things fun is always a easier and better way to get them to try something they may not always do on their own! Thanks for sharing!
I just start teaching them early on which kinds of food are good for you and help you grow and which ones taste good but don’t help you grow. We drink lots of water and when we have juice it’s always diluted with water, so, when they’re away, the taste of straight up juice always tastes too sweet to them and they’ll mix it with water on their own or just get plain water.
I try to lead by example. My kids like their water very cold so we keep a pitcher in the fridge filled all the time and it’s small enough they can help themselves. We limit soda to one day a week and that is Saturday’s. Then it is a can of soda, diet and caffeine free. We always talk about healthy foods and not so-healthy-foods and that it is okay to eat some of the not-so-healthy as long it’s not much and not frequent.
I try my best to only have healthy snacks and sugar-free drinks in our home. That way my son doesn’t have to ask if he’s allowed to eat or drink anything, it’s all ok. It becomes more of a treat than an every day occurance.
I always have cut fruit and water available!
I like to have good healthy snacks around. I also do not buy juice or soda except for special occasions. For me it is easier to make good choices when I only have good foods around.
I like to provide healthy snacks that are fun for him to eat. My son loves to drink from different types of containers – these are really cool!
We try to eat as much natural and organics as we can. Less ingredients the better.
We have a water dispenser that our kids can get their own water from. They are young 4 and 3 so getting to fill up their own cup is a lot of fun for them.
