Family room makeover

I’ve been so excited to share our new family room design with you. I’ve been working with Staci Chavez of A SaltBox Interior Design. Staci is a good friend of mine who for the past year has been working in interior design, designing for others. She has such great style and talent for pulling a room together. I’ve loved following her blog to see all the great room transformations she has worked on. Her own home design is fun to see too.

Here’s our new family room!

The room makeover all started when we were in the market for new couches. We have had the same slipcovered couch for the past 8+ years. Staci helped me find our new love seat and sofa. We ended up going with the City Scape sofa and loveseat at DownEast Home. Staci found these fun pillow covers at Festive Home Decor. The ETSY shop: Festive Home Decor has so many cute pillow covers! It was hard to choose.

We used the color of the credenza (Light Aqua #2152 by Kwall) to create a color pallet. She also started a pinboard on Pinterest for our room makeover to help come up with ideas for the room.

One of my favorite things about the room is the round coffee table or ottoman. I love the natural color and the texture that it adds to the room. You can find the natural coffee table here. The brown and white chevron rug was a markdown from It fills the space a lot better than the rug we had before.

Because everyone loves a good before and after…Here’s what this space looked like before. We used to have this tall entertainment center and carpet…oh, and globes. Lots of globes. :)

Here’s our old slipcovered couch.

Here’s the 50 dollar thrift store credenza before (more on the credenza here).

Here’s a good side by side of what the windows looked like before we added the window boxes. The before (on the right) and now the after (on the left). Thanks to our neighbor Mike for making these custom window boxes. They make such a big difference. I love how they make your eye go up and how they make the window seem taller.

The window boxes are something that Staci suggested. It’s something that I wouldn’t have even thought about changing, but I love the change.

We are loving our new space (thank you Staci!). What do you think?! What’s your favorite thing about our new space?

If you are in need of some interior design help, you can email Staci at [stacichavez{@}].

You can also follow Staci on her blog: A Saltbox Design or on Pinterest.

I hope you all have a great weekend!

great colors and the boxes really add alot to the windows. my two problems in my living room are my windows and the fireplace in the corner (which I love) just makes it hard to change the furniture arrangement other than switching my couches. (i love rearanging furniture, my hubs doesnt, haha)

    totally love the new look

Beautiful — love it all. My favorite parts??? … The couches are fabulous, but that credenza is amazing. I love the pillows and rug too — and the rattan “coffee table.” The window boxes are amazing too. Geesh. It’s all beautiful.

Cam really wants to do hardwood through out the whole house and at first I was pretty apprehensive, but seeing what you’ve done gives me hope… I love the chevron rug!

We just bought very similar couches for our living room, I really like that they are a nuetral color and can be dressed up just by changing the colors of the pillows.

My favorite part/s (two really – although it all looks great) the rug and the repainted blue sideboard. Good job Kami!

I love the window boxes. I need to do that to one of my windows. I also love the color of the credenza and the round ottoman and the chevron rug and your couches…. I just keep going. It all looks wonderful together and gives me some much needed inspiration for my living room.

I am totally digging the new look. Makes me totally covet what u did. Love the colors. I think I may change things around at our house now soon kind of like what you’ve got and I absolutely love the window boxes. I showed Dave and he said he liked it as well and that he could probably do that to ours. Good job! You did good. :-)

First off – I NEVER get on the computer to see how fantastic blogs really can look….I only use the iphone and look as I try to get up in the morning! The design on here is great! Also, LOVE the room…I have many rooms in my home that I’m dying to make over but – well, there is just always a BUT – so they will have to remain ugly for a bit!
