See those darling love plates above? Can you believe I passed on them? Crazy, I know. With Valentine’s just around the corner, I keep thinking how fun they would be to fill with candy or just decorate with. That’s the thing about thrifting, if you don’t want it right then, someone else will. I could just buy them right here, but for me thrifting is all about the hunt and the price tag… that’s what makes it all so fun.
Also, a few of you commented, saying that you found little mailboxes at Target in the Dollar Spot. I really didn’t pay that much less for the thrifted ones(above). Did Target have any pink ones? If so, then that’s a bummer, but if not, then at least I can feel good about recycling them into something cuter more cute.
I was curious, have you passed on any great finds, only to regret it later?

I've not yet mastered the art of thrifting, but 15 years ago when I was visiting San Francisco I found an art print commemorating Muir Woods for $20. I still dream of that print and kick myself for not snatching it up. I've found it online…for $150.
Also, a punched metal framed mirror I saw in Santa Fe. But I'll get back down there for that one. And SOON.
I know what you mean. There's something kind of empowering about walking away from something you want. Like, "I don't need you, plates!" Those plates will find you again (in the thrift store).
Yep…Target had the pink ones…in fact when I saw your post about them I just had assumed you had gotten them at Target since I had just seen them there!
those are cute plates!
all i know is at not so thrifty swiss days….you see it, you want it, you buy it!
i'm trying to simplify and not buy anything these days, thrifty or not…
some days are better than others!
I saw the LOVE letter at Zurchers yesterday….but I didn't look at the price…
VIV is a very wise woman… she is a miraculous shopper, but sometimes not so thrifty! Her motto in life ( that I must confess I believe) is "you are never mad about what you bought… just what you didn't buy- you can take the rest of the stuff back."
My Target has pink, red, and white but the door is not hinged
It just pops on and off.
I saw the cutest Halloween costumes for my girls once but thought I'd keep looking to make sure it was what I wanted. Went back to get them a week later and of course they were gone. I was so annoyed at myself for not just buying them! Since then I try to live by the motto above…if undecided just buy it…you can always take it back.
p.s. I'm sure your mailboxes are much cuter than the Target ones.
Just yesterday I saw a little table at my local thrift store and I REALLY wanted it but couldn't quite picture where I would use it. I picked up the tag and carried it around while I browsed. I finally decided against purchasing it and put the tag back on the table. When I got to the checkout, I saw a woman buying the table. I got in line behind her and complimented her on her purchase. She turned around and it was an old friend! She told me how and where she planned to use the table. I was SO pleased to know it was going to a good home where it will be loved and cherished! That made it all better!
The ones at Target are styrofoam and not nearly as cute or nice as these! These are darling and you have inspired my daughter (10 years old) and I to do something similar for her Valentine box. We could not find a mailbox, but we purchased tin box (at the thrift store for $.99 with a container store price tag still on it for $5.99) and we are going to fix it up cute!!! Thanks for the inspiration!
I need to go with you again. I'm just never feeling like there was anything to pass up, ha! Maybe help me decide what to collect, then I'll have something to look for.
I try to live by Amy's Mom's philosophy too, but sometimes I don't buy and end up regretting and going back the next day only to be disappointed.
