Monday’s Oprah was major, did you see it? It was all about the dangers of texting and talking on your cellphone while driving. I felt sick watching it. Because I am guilty of doing both. It is something that so many of us do everyday without even thinking about it. After watching that show, I am changed. Whatever it is while I’m in the car… it can wait.
If I can do any good with this blog, this PSA, is something I want to be a part of. Whether you watch Oprah or not, like her or not, this timely show is something we all need to hear.
I took the pledge, and you can too HERE.

I was already committed after a terrible accident in my neighborhood last year. A texting teen killed a 50-something husband and father just around the corner. He was going less than 30 mph. It was devastating.
Last year a young mother texting hit a volunteer going to help at a swim meet, who was crossing in a crosswalk right by the rec center. It was bad. I have to say it is going to be hard not to talk. I always feel I am so busy that I need the time to work on things while driving, but I will pledge today.
I'm so glad they're making people aware of this! On army bases it's illegal to use a phone while driving, and you get a big fat ticket (they WILL catch you!) Anyway, it's really not that much of a sacrifice- all things considered. It's much better than the alternative….
i'm totally guilty. i've gotta get it together.
i've been having chandi text for me if i need to about 80 percent of the time, but the other 20 i might attempt.
but this is like the 4th post in the past week tht i've seen about this. so it must mean something.
going over now–
I didn't see the show, but I saw the commercial last week and that already had me going. I still used my phone in the car a couple of times, but got off quickly once I remembered. I can't help but think to myself why if I'm such a car seat nazi, why I would do anything to endanger my kids sitting in those well-researched, high tech seats? Because the reality is they'll be just fine no matter what seat they're in if we never get into a wreck! And there I was doing something to endanger them … misguided logic on my end for sure! I do have bluetooth, but I try to not even use that because I still find it distracting.
I went "hands free" when we moved to California, there's zero tolerance for doing anything with a cell phone while driving. Then we bought a car with bluetooth so the phone call gets piped through the speakers. I only use it if absolutely necessary.
amen! i missed it, so thank you for sharing!
I saw it too and it was really eye-opening.. I am one who will talk on the phone but doesn't text for sure.. but I now realize neither is safe… I am going to steal this post idea and put it on my blog and make sure everyone is aware and that we all need to be a lot more safer!!! Thanks for sharing.
I didn't see the show, but my mom called me to tell me to quit talking on the phone with her grandbabies in the car. (I guess she's okay if I am alone??) It is a hard one because I have gotten used to chatting while driving, especially on the freeway. I'm not sure I can pledge to never do it. But I will try. Maybe I need to watch the show and get a little more freaked out about it. By the way, I finally blogged about the pictures Ginnie J took for us that we won on here. I love them! Thanks again!
I have definitely put a stop to texting in the car while driving, though I confess I still might do it once in a while when stopped at a light. Talking? I definitely need to work on that. With young kids at home and an older one in charge I worry when the phone rings while away. Of course, I've missed calls before and everyone's been fine, so I'm going to make my best effort this year to leave the phone "off the hook" while driving. Thanks for the poignant reminder, Kami.
i have never texted in the car but i am guilty of talking on the phone. i didn't see that oprah but i always know when i am talking on the phone that i shouldn't be.especially when i have my 3 kids with me. you convinced me… i'm taking the pledge right now
