Meet big, gold and gaudy...oh yeah, and cheap too (10 Bucks!). This mirror measures 5 feet tall x 3 feet wide and weighs about 30 lbs. With those kind of stats, it makes it that much more fun to think I only paid $10.
Lots of steps for the total transformation. This is the fun part for me. I was most excited about turning that oval shape up top into a little magnetic chalkboard. Lots of spray paint was needed for this project... dover white by Krylon, is the color I used.
Ta-Da!
(please no mirror by the bed jokes, it was Kyle's idea)![]()
Here is another mirror that I found and loved, mostly for it's frame and shape. The thing I love about mirrors in a space, is how much light they bring into a room.
PS. It's about time I added a little Utah accent into the title of these posts.

I love it. And I love your bedding. And I love the round mirror. And I just realized that I have a very similar round mirror down in the depths of my basement. And now I know what to do with it!
P.S. It's only weird if the mirror is hung on the ceiling. You're fine.
You've inspired me to think about doing something like this. I say think about because I'm the queen of ideas never materializing into action.
I just love a good Utah accent. I worked in Senator Bennett's front office and spoke to Utahns from all over the state with varying degrees of the accent. My favorite was a woman who wanted me to arrange several "turs" (tours) for her throughout DC. She said it several times. I giggled a lot.(After I hung up of course. Giggling during the call wouldn't have been very professional).
LOVE those mirrors. Maybe I will venture into a thrift store this week an see if I can get lucky...
ok, I admit it, you made me laugh. The mirror by the bed comment was funny and I guess something I never really think about since my dresser has a huge mirror on it and it is technically *by the bed* anyway, thanks for the laugh.
The mirrors look amazing, I can't imagine the look on Nate's face if I came home with a mirror as big and GOLD as that 1st one.
Kami I LOVE it! What an amazing before and after! I never would have thought to put chalkboard paint in the top oval but what a cool idea. It looks great next to your cute bedding. You and Kyle both benefit. ;)
Super thrifty & awesome! Love it!!
Very nice.
Those are AWESOME for lack of a better word. What finds my friend! And their transformations.....even better. I love posts like this. Right up my alley.
Doesn't it feel good to get something for a steal and then make it your own? I know....I love it!
I love what you did. Why can't I ever find things that are begging to be made into something fabulous? I always find crap.
GREAT transformations!!! I love them both. That first gold mirror looks so great now!
XOXO
Jen
Very cute Kam I love the simple circle one. What did you write in the oval one I couldn't really read it.
Awesome... You are incredibly creative... Next time you go, can I tag along???
I'm so loving the mirrors, especially the one with the chalk board space on the top, what a great idea. Where did you get them? Garage sales? KSL? Anyway I don't know if you remember me, I'm Kimber's friend and knew you and Jen back in the Raintree days, but I recently discovered your blog and think it is so fun, keep up the good work!
Those mirrors look great! White would have been my first choice as well. You are very imaginative, I love it!
Those mirrors are awesome! I have been doing the same thing lately, but just with regular old rectangle mirrors. I love the different shapes you have found. They turned out so good.
Love the outcome! I was not expecting that at all. No mirror by the bed jokes here ;) Just waiting for your mirror on the ceiling tutorial ;) lol
Oh wow, great makeovers. I brought home a gaudy gold mirror once and Ryan said, "What the heck is that. I just think it's so ugly." A little bit of spray paint and it's perfect.
look great! I love your header too!
love the idea! I think I will be heading over to the local DI to see if I can copy you!
gah... i have been looking for such a mirror everywhere. DI never has cool mirrors like that. where did you get yours? let us in on your secret! i love the finished product.
ok, i love that. well both.
i'm making a chalkboard for my kitchen and i had no idea that all you needed to do to make it magnetic was just to make it out of tin! magnifique!
I love them both, now I am on the hunt for some cool mirrors. Actually, I am obsessed with finding some. Lucky.
ok so how jealous am i that you found that at the centerville DI? i stalk the centerville and layton DI's weekly for mirrors... so i just was looking at your blog and noticed a picture of heather, she is my hubbys cousin, we love her!
Beautiful!
Okay! That settles it! You have to take me thrift shopping. I don't know my way around and you seem to have the magic touch with your cool finds!
two words: Mad Skillz.
