I Love The Whole World

In Honor of Earth Day tomorrow: April 22nd, I wanted to celebrate our Mother Earth all week with simple things we all can do. I agree that the green movement has gone a bit overboard in the marketing and advertising area, and I don’t agree that it should be a reason for people to buy more stuff. Although I do think if it gets people thinking in the right direction, then it can be a force for good.
So today’s simple idea is to remove your name from catalog mailing lists and Junk Mail. If you are a blogger, then you are probably online enough that you can just view everything online. I use to get PB and PB Kids Catalogs just to look at, but recently I called and requested to be taken off the list. It is a start. I would love to hear some of your ideas too.

I love the whole world!

I should do that too… plus it will keep me from buying stuff I don’t need!! I was thinking about using reusable grocery bags. My friend has them and loves them and they are a ton easier to hull in then plastic bags. Lot’s of places are giving them away free tomorrow.

Bills online has been a big one and getting off the credit card list (we still get some but its about 1% what use to come, I think the shreder is starting to get lonely) And finally the kids are remember to turn off the lights for the most part!

I just barely took my name off a bunch of catalog lists and credit card junk mail. I even took my name off of some emailing lists, just because that’s all I get in my inbox everyday! :) One of my friends posted about this and gave some web addresses you can go to that make it easy to take your name off mailing lists.

oh, that video was cool. My goal lately is to make more things from scratch so there is less garbage to throw away. Cakes, pancakes, bread are all a good places to start.

That video was cute. :) I am soo guilty of getting lots and lots of magazines in the mail. BUT I totally recycle all of them. All of us who live in Orem should have a recycle bin at their house. It’s only $3 a month and you don’t even have to separate the stuff! We finally got ours. Happy Earth day!

That was such a cool commercial! I need to take my name off the mailing list because I get the emails for anywhere I shop and the paper is just a waste. Great idea!

I didn’t even know that today was earth day (that shows how green I am, huh). But, coincidently today it just occurred to me that I should be turning my computer completely off while I’m at school/work. It’s only 4 hours, but there is no need to keep it on while we are gone. It’s a small step, but they all add up right?

I’m always amazed of how much of my mail goes directly to the trash or shredder. What a great idea! I’m going to get working on it!

What a great post Kami. I have been working really hard at recycling and I have also tried to not drive as much. I also have been trying to use more “green” cleaning products and such. My kids and I take a plastic garbage sack with us when we go on walks to pick up trash we see along the way. They love it and thing it’s a fun game. Just a few little things, but I feel that if we all did a little, it’d help out a whole lot!
