Today’s simple idea is recycle yard waste. Did you know that grass clippings are 99% water? Would you fill a plastic bag full of water and put it in your trash? I know, it’s crazy, but so many of us do it. Depending on where you live, yard waste pick up might be available. I know it is available in our area, because we use it. I don’t compost, so in its place, I use this container to put any fruit or vegetable scraps, weeds, tree branches, etc. I am thankful for this service and for this beautiful planet we all share. Happy Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day to you! I wish we had yard waste pickup – we barely have recycling! SL County needs to get on it. Thanks for the tips
You have wanted to help the earth since you came home in 7th grade and taught your Dad and I about recycling. Happy Earth Day!
Great tips Kami! Here is one that bugs me, but I don’t know what to do as it is a rule. Sorry this is sick I know, but whenver we walk around the trails or at the park if our dog does his business they want it in a plastic bag. Hmmm maybe I will start carrying around a tiny shovel and scoop and chuck.
You inspire me. My goal this week is to get a green waste garbage can from the city. Thanks!
I love that you area celebrating Earth Day and telling others about it too. I am not so good, but I am going to take your tips this week and try to make this world a little better.
p.s. Loved the video clip yesterday… I love the Discovery Channel!
I too am not the most careful user of resources. But, I am “waking-up” a bit. I am seeing more and more small ways I can use only what I need. I’m glad you blog about being GREEN – good job!
Hey, thanks! I’d never thought about putting food in my green waste bin. Great idea!
Happy Earth Day! I think it’s important to remember that we can make simple changes without drastically altering our lifestyles. And it’s because of these simple changes that a lot of people doing simple things can make a huge difference.
I’m off today to buy shopping bags for my weekly trips to Costco. I’ll use them instead of the cardboard boxes they always give you to put your stuff in. I figure it can be my very small contribution to this earth. Also, I called and cancelled all my catalogs, that was a great idea. I never read them, I’m always shopping online so it just made sense. Thanks for the suggestion!
We only bag our first and last cutting of the year (in paper yard bags), but we don’t have yard waste service in our town. Bummer! I might just have to do my civic duty and write a letter to my city councilman.
You are such a granola cruncher! hee hee! I appreciate your passion about taking care of this beautiful earth that we have! This earth is such an amazing gift from God, and I do believe that we all need to step up and do our part to take care of her! I posted an earth day tribute to hopefully inspire some people to start doing some really simple things that can and will make a huge difference! Thanks for all of your inspiration!
That’s a great idea. I’m new to the recycling thing so it’s nice to get some tips!
We need to be better at recycling yard waste. What do they use it for?
